Who I am         

Hello. My name is Maureen Schiller and I am a counsellor working in private practice as a counsellor and supervisor in Tideswell, Derbyshire. I also have a small practice in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. I have been working as a counsellor for 15 years.

My philosophy and counselling is  based on the Person-Centred Approach, which is non-interpretive and non-directive. In effect that means I help you to explore your world and maybe identify changes you would like to make.

What sort of counselling practice do I have? Well, I would say general counselling, which includes relationship problems, eating disorders, work related issues, stress, anxiety, depression, self esteem and identity or actually any emotional issues at all. Although my work is not specific to any one of these areas, I do have a special interest in eating disorders, which reflects my knowledge gained over more than thirty years.

My background and experience

I have gained recognition by the British Association for Counselling as a Senior Accredited Counsellor by virtue of my experience and training, which includes a Diploma and Degree in Person-Centred Counselling awarded by the Metanoia Institute and Middlesex University. I abide and work by their Code of Ethics and Ethical Framework.

My knowledge and experience includes working with mental health problems and the use of art and image in counselling.

My practice

Our first session is an assessment, giving us both a chance to see how we work together.  We then discuss whether we will contract to work together, frequency, fee and other details. Both of us will monitor the process which our relationship creates, making changes to our agreement when appropriate.

I run a flexible diary which includes appointment times during the day and evening and at the end of each one hour session we find a mutually acceptable time for the next. In this way, the service I offer can be tailored to fit your lifestyle.

Usually clients pay my fee at the end of each session. Cash or cheque are fine and although I have a standard sessional fee, but it is negotiable in certain cases.
